Library Profile
The Lovington Public Library District serves an area with a population of 1,954. The libary is located in a building expressly designed for that purpose following a fire in 1985 which destroyed the former library and its contents. The library occupies 3,600 square feet and includes adult and youth areas, a reading area, and a meeting room. The library is totally accessible with a handicapped parking space behind the building. The staff includes a full-time Library Director and a part-time Library Assistant.
Who We Are
Lovington is located in one of the smallest and most rural counties in Illinois. The population consists largely of those who commute to work in the neighboring communities with a considerable number of retired persons.
Being centrally located in the community, the library is accessible to all residents and widely used by all ages. Anyone living in the Lovington School District can borrow material without paying the non-resident fee.
The library holds over 19,000 materials which include books, books on tape and cd, VHS/DVD recordings, magazines and newspapers.
